Hanuman meets His Master Sri Ram

Cursed by the sages, Hanuman grew up not knowing his magical powers. Quietly he acquired skills of mathematics, language and morality from his masters and became an excellent individuals suitable for employment. In adolescent, he got a job in the court of a south Indian monkey king Sugreev. By his skillful work, he got quick promotions and elevated to the powerful position of a senior ministers. He was a trusted counselor of king Sugreev.

There was a family feud of king Sugreev with is elder brother Bali. Bali took away all the positions and wife of Sugreev and forced to live him the woods. Hanuman, like a good friend and councillor accompanied his boss into the exile. Sugreev team along with Hanuman lived in the forest called Rishyamukacala for some years.

In the mean time, a big story was brewing in the mighty kingdom of Ayodhya in north India. The beloved prince of Ayodhya Sri Ram along with his brother Lakshman and wife Sita, was exiled to forest by his father for 14 years. One days, while living in forest, Sita sited a golden deer and asked Ram to catch it. Ram left Sita alone to chase the golden deer. Soon after, Ravan, the king of Lanka came and abducted Sita. When Ram and his brother Lakshman returned to their hut, they did not find Sita and desperately started looking for her. They started moving southward looking for Sita everywhere.

In quest of Sita, when Ram reached close to the mountain Rishyamukha and Tungabhadra river, Sugreev sited him and sent Hanuman to find out his identity. Hanuman took the form of a Brahmin - a upper social class practitioners of knowledge, and came to meet Ram. 

As Hanuman came down the mountain to meet Ram, he had a special excitement and feeling of elevated joy. Meeting Ram was the high point of his life, he know at once that he found his Master. After all Ram was the God incarnation on earth for the benefit of people dwelling here. Hanuman asked Ram, who are you, one dark and other white man? You look like heros belonging to the class of worriers, yet your feets are so clean and soft. Why are you wondering the hard forest with your tender feets, my masters? You have been waling in harsh wind under the sun, yet, you are so fair with soft hands and limbs. Are you both God and man or are you the combination of the three powers Brahama, Vishnu and Sive? Or, are you the sole cause of the creation? And descending on earth  in the form of man to save it? jaga kārana tārana bhava bhaṃjana dharanī bhāra | kī tumha akila bhuvana pati līnha manuja avatāra.

Ram replied in gentle voice. He said, my name is Ram and I have with me Lakshman the white man. We are the son of Dasarath, the king of Ayodhya. We came to forest to fulfil the order our father along with my wife Sita. A damon natured king from south abducted her and we are in a mission search and rescue. We told you about us, O holy Brahmin, please introduce yourself.

Hanuman fell in the feet of Ram with joy. He recognized his master immediately and sang his praise with excitement. He said, I am only an ordinary mortal and asked your introduction. But, O Master, you are no ordinary. You know everything.  I am spelled by the delusion created by you, so I could not recognize my master. Hanuman humbly said, I do not have much knowledge, O Ram you should help me. And, Hanuman fell in the feet of Ram.

Ram lifted Hanuman and gave a tight hug, both were crying with joy. Ram said, do not be depressed O Hanuman, you are twice as dear to me as Lakshman. Everyone says, I treat all equally. But, in reality, I like my devotees twice as much, since they depend on me solely.

This is how Hanuman met his Master Ram, and later narrated all the stories of his boss Sugreev.

Because of the sages’ words, Hanuman grew up without knowing his great powers.
He lived quietly and learned many good things.
He learned to speak well, to think well, and to be kind.

As he grew older, Hanuman became wise and helpful.
He went to work in the court of a monkey king named Sugreev.

Hanuman worked very well and helped everyone.
Soon, the king trusted him deeply.
Hanuman became one of the king’s closest helpers and friends.

But King Sugreev had a sad problem.
His older brother, Bali, was angry with him.
Bali took away Sugreev’s kingdom and sent him into the forest.

Hanuman did not leave his king.
Like a true friend, he went with Sugreev into the forest.
They lived together near a mountain called Rishyamukha for many years.

Far away, in the beautiful city of Ayodhya,
another story was unfolding.

Prince Ram, his wife Sita, and his brother Lakshman
had gone to live in the forest for many years.

One day, while they were in the forest,
Sita saw a shining golden deer.
She asked Ram to bring it to her.

Ram went after the deer,
and Sita was left alone for a short while.

During that time, Ravan, the king of Lanka, came and took Sita away.

When Ram and Lakshman returned,
they could not find Sita anywhere.
Their hearts were full of worry.

They began walking south,
searching everywhere for Sita.

One day, Ram came near the mountain Rishyamukha
and the flowing river nearby.

King Sugreev saw the two princes from far away.
He felt unsure and sent Hanuman to learn who they were.

Hanuman came down the mountain calmly.
He changed his form and spoke gently.

As Hanuman walked toward Ram,
his heart felt light and joyful.
He did not know why,
but he felt something very special.

Hanuman spoke with respect and kindness.
Ram replied softly and said,
“My name is Ram.
This is my brother Lakshman.
We are princes of Ayodhya.
We are looking for my wife, Sita.”

The moment Hanuman heard Ram’s words,
his heart knew the truth.

Tears filled his eyes.
He fell at Ram’s feet with love and joy.

“You are my Master,” Hanuman said softly.
“I did not know before,
but now my heart understands.”

Ram lifted Hanuman up and hugged him tightly.
Both were smiling, both were happy.

Ram said gently,
“Hanuman, do not worry.
You are very dear to me.”

From that day on,
Hanuman became Ram’s devoted helper and friend.

Then Hanuman told Ram all about King Sugreev
and their life in the forest.

This is how Hanuman met his beloved Master, Ram.
